NASHVILLE, TN (September 5, 2013) - Employees, associates, and friends from Allstate Insurance joined together in a big way raising more than $31,000 to support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ annual bowl-a-thon event, Bowl for Kids’ Sake, at Hillwood Strike & Spare. This marks the third year this group has formed inter-departmental teams, held various preliminary fund-raisers, and rallied together in their desire to help provide mentors to children in need. Of the fourteen different Bowl for Kids’ Sake events held on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, the teams from Allstate were the top fundraisers.
Cynthia Whitfield, Allstate Field Senior Vice President and Co-Chair of the 2013 Bowl for Kids’ Sake, commented, “We went all out! Allstate had 100 bowlers, 18 team captains and dozens of others who contributed their time, talents and creativity.” She continued, “We were very proud to lead the way as the highest overall contributor. But what’s most important is the knowledge that our efforts will help more deserving children receive invaluable mentoring – that’s what it’s all about.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides mentors to children in need of a positive adult role model. Funds raised are used to conduct background checks on volunteers to ensure child safety, and provide ongoing support for children, families and volunteers to build and sustain long-lasting relationships.
Children with a mentor in their lives are proven to do better in school, have an increase in self-confidence, be more likely to avoid drugs and violence, and realize new and brighter futures. In addition, they influence their peers along the way positively impacting the entire community.
