The Auxiliary to the R. F. Boyd Medical Society sponsored a luncheon/seminar on Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Saturday, May 25, 2013 at St. Anselm’s Episcopal Church, 2008 Meharry Boulevard.
The ladies at the luncheon had a good conversation about Triple Negative Breast Cancer with Drs. Robin Williams, Regina Stokes Offodile and Billy Ballard. Each doctor gave a 10 minute presentation about the disease and then answered questions from attendees during lunch. The ladies who attended the luncheon represented area churches, sororities and businesses in the Nashville community. They were asked to share information learned about the disease with their African American sisters in the community. Leaflets about cancer and a gift bag were given to each woman present, by the auxiliary. This community outreach program is part of a national educational initiative led by the President of the Auxiliary to the National Medical Society (ANMA), Mrs. Sharon Melvin, with support from Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company, and sponsored, on the local level, by the Auxiliary to the R.F. Boyd Medical Society of Nashville.

Earlier in May, as part of the Auxiliary’s effort to inform the community about Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) they partnered with Nashville General Hospital and assembled key chains with assorted beads the sizes of possible lumps found in a woman’s breast. These were placed in lovely pink gift bags provided by the hospital, along with an informative ANMA brochure on TNBC, ANMA breast cancer signature canisters of hand sanitizer and other items provided by the hospital and given to the women who participated in their annual “Mammograms in May” program. Auxiliary members were pleased to assist in assembling the bags. This program provides free mammograms to women who make an appointment to have a mammogram at the hospital’s Breast Health Center during the month of May.
