NASHVILLE, TN — The Meharry Chapter of the Association of Dental Students, in partnership with Remote Area Medical, provided free cleanings, extractions and fillings to help improve oral health across Middle Tennessee on March 9th.

Members of the Nashville community were able to receive cleanings, extractions, oral hygiene and nutritional counseling and fillings. The event is organized annually by the Meharry Chapter of the Association of Dental Students (ASDA) in partnership with Remote Area Medical (RAM), a nonprofit provider of mobile medical clinics that delivers free dental, vision and medical care to those in need.

“Many of our most vulnerable residents in Nashville do not have good oral health care because they cannot access or afford it,” said Dr. James E.K. Hildreth, president and CEO of Meharry Medical College. “The condition of a person’s mouth, teeth and gums is directly related to his or her overall health and well-being. At Meharry, our faculty and students are committed to helping improve the health of the people of Nashville by offering quality dental care at no cost on Oral Health Day.”

Meharry’s School of Dentistry is the nation’s leading producer of African-American dentists. Meharry graduates carry on the college’s mission to serve the underserved. Eighty-three percent of dental alumni choose to practice in underserved communities throughout the United States.
