(l-r) Donald Trump and The Khans

Donald Trump is no stranger to battling people in the media, but his latest escapades with the Khan family have landed him in hot water. Khizr and Ghazala Khan spoke at the Democratic National Convention last week in response to Trump’s comments on Muslim immigration. The Khans spoke of their son, Humayan Khan, who was an immigrant and was killed serving the country in Iraq in 2004 when a car bomb exploded while he was guarding a base. Mr. Khan made several statements about Trump in his DNC speech, even going so far as to pull out a pocket constitution and asking “Have you even read the United States constitution? I’ll gladly lend you a copy.”

Trump responded and insisted that he was attacked by the family first. Trump also went so far as to say the reason that Mrs. Khan didn’t speak at the DNC was “because of her Muslim faith” prompting a social media firestorm and Muslim women to start the hashtag #Canyouhearusnow. Trump said in an interview on ABC’s “This Week” that Khan was misguided “I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures,” Trump said in the interview. “I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.”

Ghazala Khan also addressed the reason she remained silent in the DNC speech in the Washington Post. “Donald Trump has children whom he loves,” she wrote. “Does he really need to wonder why I did not speak?”. Meanwhile, GOP leaders are facing increasing pressure to drop their support for Trump. President Barack Obama also encouraged the GOP to drop their support for Trump.
