Knoxville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)–Bailey Davis, a 19-year-old freshman at the University of Tennessee has qualified to play in the 77th U.S. Women’s Open on June 2-5 in Pinehurst, NC. Golf fans who follow collegiate tournaments will probably recall Bailey’s outstanding performance at last year’s USGA Girls Junior Championship. There she made it to the finals and was on the brink of becoming the first Black woman to win a USGA championship. However, lost the event to the #1 ranked women’s amateur in the world.

Bailey flew home to the District of Columbia, Maryland just to play in the U.S. Women’s Open qualifier at Belle Haven Country Club, last Wednesday,” said a source familiar with the athlete. “She finished the first 18 at -2, and not far behind in second place were two professionals, Cindy Huang and Sarah Kemp at -1. She ended up -3 after 36 holes for the win.” Bailey was also the lowest medalist at the Alexandria, VA site.

The U.S. Women’s Open Championship is considered the ultimate test in women’s golf.
