NASHVILLE, TN — There will be fewer Black performers honored at the 2023 Emmy Awards. The full list of nominees, which was read last week, does contain some prominent Black artists. It just isn’t in bulk like last season.
The biggest names earning nominations included Dominique Fishback, Tyler James Williams and Quinta Brunson.
Fishback was nominated in the category Lead Actress on a Limited Anthology Series or Movie for her work in Donald Glover’s “Swarm.”
Brunson received two nominations, one as the lead actress of a category for her work on “Abbott Elementary. “
The second is a guest comedic actress nomination for her episode of “Saturday Night Live.”
Sam Richardson earned a guest comedic actor nomination for his role in “Ted Lasso.”
Lamar Johnson, Kevin Montreal Woodard and Storm Reid were others nominated for guest performances on various shows.
Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph, both of “Abbott Elementary,” were nominated in the supporting actress in a comedy category as well as Jessica Williams in “Shrinking.”
Niecy Nash-Betts was nominated in the supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for her role in “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”
“Rupal’s Drag Race” and “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” were shows nominated.
