NASHVILLE, TN — New leaders are taking over for the basketball and track squads at Fisk University.

The announcements were made late last week. The new basketball coach has an HBCU background as well as a solid coaching background.

He’s former Tennessee State University basketball player Jeremiah Crutcher.

He’s been in the coaching ranks since 2013.  He previously coached at Battle Ground Academy Hunters Lane, John Early Middle School and Lebanon High School prior to his most recent Stay at Whites Creek. Last season he led them to the TSSAA Class AA Final Four.

“I am excited to get this hire completed,” Fisk Athletic Director Valencia Jordan said on the school’s website. “Coach ‘Crutch’ has strong ties in the community and his AAU background had given him inroads across the country.”

Mardy Scales

Crutcher officially started July 16, but will hold his first press conference July 22.

They also hired former Middle Tennessee State track star Mardy Scales as their new track coach on July 12.

Scales previously served as an assistant at Cumberland and Kennesaw State.

Scales, a member of the Middle Tennessee State Athletics Hall of Fame, won a silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Games. He previously coached the sprints, relays and long jump at Kennesaw State.
