NASHVILLE, TN — Last week, state Representative John Ray Clemmons (D-Nashville), candidate for mayor of Nashville, issued the following statement regarding the widespread protests by MNPS employees over the current administration’s proposed budget:

“Investing in our schools and paying educators is more than just a budgetary line item — it’s a direct investment in the future of our city. As a proud MNPS parent, I am firmly committed to making public education funding a priority so that every child across our city has an opportunity to succeed.

“MNPS teachers, administrators and para-professionals deserve our full support because of their unwavering commitment to educating our children. Today, these educators are bringing much-needed attention to our city’s misplaced priorities. During this time of unprecedented prosperity, a lack of leadership and vision in Metro has resulted in teachers being underpaid and overburdened.

“It’s time for change. It’s time for a fresh start. Our future starts now.”
