Josephine Amanda Groves Holloway (1898 to 1988) broke the color barrier for African American girls to become involved in scouting in Tennessee. She began organizing unofficial groups in 1933. They were recognized in 1942 and finally desegregated. The Girl Scouts of the USA named Camp Holloway after her in 1955.
