Open Enrollment for our Seniors Health Coverage is here for 2024. Open enrollment started on November 1, 2023 and continues through December 30, 2023 for most insurances.

During open enrollment you can renew your current, existing individual/family health and dental plan and this is also the time you can choose a new insurance plan. Seniors let’s talk about why it’s important to have dental coverage.

What are the Real Benefits of having Dental Benefits our Seniors may ask? As we age, our teeth and gums are more susceptible to decay, inflammation, and disease, therefore, our teeth may need more work to stay healthy. The cost of that trip to the dentist can be more expensive because of all the treatment needed to keep your mouth healthy. The cost of fillings, crowns, dentures, extractions, and implants can add up to thousands of dollars. This can be a problem if you are on a fixed income and don’t have any dental insurance to help with the cost.

How Do to Find the Right Dental Insurance for Seniors

Finding the right dental insurance plan can be a challenge. You can buy a standard individual dental insurance plan, usually at a low monthly premium. Most plans only cover approximately

$1000 per calendar year and this covers regular cleanings, exams, x-rays, fillings, and extractions. There are two major types of dental insurance plans that can help our Seniors, Managed Care Plans (PPO) and Indemnity Plans (HMO). An additional solution for Seniors is a Discount Dental Plan. The discount plans are accessible for individuals of all ages and they can reduce your dental bill by 15-50 percent.

A great advantage to a discount plan is they do not conflict with Medicare or Medicaid, and you don’t have the typical waiting periods. Seniors if you have questions about the different types of insurance you can call John Davis at (615) 509-8105 who an insurance agent that has worked with the Seniors in my office, and he will be able to tell you which plan is best for you.
