(Nashville, Tenn.) Nashville’s Jazz station, WFSK-FM  kicks off the Fall Fund Drive with its Annual 48-Hour Radiothon, beginning Friday, October 4th to Sunday, October 6th.  The station sets up a drive-thru giving area with a live remote broadcast from our parking at W.E.B. DuBois Hall on the Fisk campus. (corner of D. B. Todd & Jackson Streets)

From 9:00 am to 6:00 pm both Friday, October 4th and Saturday, October 5th we raise funds from the community to keep the music playing at WFSK, our city’s 51-year-old HBCU FCC licensed radio station.  We’re one of less than 30 HBCU radio stations in the United States.  It’s an African American Public Radio (AAPR) station, Tennessee’s only.  WFSK defrays the cost of operation with Donors, Underwriters and Sponsors.

“WFSK JAZZY 88 sits in the North Nashville area and serves as a beacon of light in the heart & soul in our city”, said    Sharon Kay, WFSK General Manager.  “Being owned and operated by Historic Fisk University since 1973, makes us proud to be Nashville’s first and only radio station to play jazz music and is the first African American FM radio on the dial”.

“WFSK’s voice is vital in the media landscape, we can cover and discuss a host of issues and topics and offer the Smooth & Contemporary Jazz format to this city of Music”, she said.

During the Radiothon, besides hearing the music,  listeners are treated to getting a variety of information from a host  of folks representing various sectors of the community, from elected officials, and businesses, to recording artists, media personalities and educators who are on the air with station staff to drum up support for the station.

The annual goal is always $88,100.
