NASHVILLE, TN — I caught author and divorce lawyer Anne Hamer on a rare moment of down time recently, in the excitement and anticipation of the release of her brand new book “Fearless Freedom: A Divorced Lawyer’s Guide to Divorce.” Hamer is an accomplished and driven divorce attorney who decided to take her professional and personal expertise on the subject to a creative level when she penned this step by step guide to getting through separating from a spouse. She is intelligent, caring, and well spoken about how she wants her clients to feel, as well as readers of her first book.

“Redefining, healing, and confronting” are a few of the words that have been used to describe the approach to separation that Anne’s work covers, as she is still navigating being a divorced woman herself, whose desire to help others in the same position has inspired her to foster a new more emotionally in-touch approach to coaching those who lean on her to get through a turbulent time. “When I’m working with my clients, there’s a lot of information I have to give them and they may hear it but they don’t remember it… most go through a long period of confusion and doubt about the legal process, so I thought it was time for me to have a resource to give them” Hamer explained, “when they’re freaking out at three in the morning, they can just see my advice and what I think about their concern in the book”. Written with an instruction manual type of approach, the book is a “how-to” piece coming from experience, empathy and education.

“There are some resources out there written by divorce lawyers in Tennessee, but they were all written by men, and not divorced men either, I felt like I had a real opportunity to write about what it’s like going through a divorce having done it myself” Hamer commented on seizing the timing and opportunity to take her day to day work and share it with a wider audience of readers. With an evident strong work ethic, between assisting her clients and penning the book, Hamer seems to have more hours in the day than the average person.

Hamer shared that she is now more emotionally connected and invested in guiding her clients through the legal process of divorce, which she says is cut and dry when it comes to the perplexing jargon and procedures, though the subject matter is delicate and should be treated with warmth and an acceptance of vulnerability. She described how simply being there to listen, to give ease, and dispense advice is what her main role at work looks like these days.

“I want {clients} to trust the book because it is coming from someone who has walked in their shoes”. In the end Hamer’s main message to her audience is one of deserved hope and fulfillment in life after divorce. “It’s hard, and it’s heartbreaking, but when you come out the other side of it you can make the most amazing life for yourself, you just need the tools to do it, and that is what this book is for”.
