NASHVILLE, TN — Wendell Pierce has long been one of Hollywood’s busiest and most versatile character actors, equally able to excel in a leading or supportive role. But last week he landed a spot on one of the more eagerly awaited and anticipated properties coming soon, the latest version the iconic superhero Superman. It is directed by James Gunn, titled “Titled Superman: Legacy,” and production has already begun. The newest person in the title role is David Corenswet, who’s alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the infamous Lex Luthor.
Pierce is assuming the role of editor Perry White. He’s the second distinguished Black actor cast as White, the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet. Previously, Laurence Fishburne portrayed White in 2013’s “Man of Steel” and the 2016 feature “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The 60-year-old Pierce’s other numerous roles include Detective William “Bunk” Moreland in “The Wire,” as well as stints on” Suits,” “The Odd Couple,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” and the 2014 film “Selma,” He’s also co-starring in the new CBS comedy/drama “Elsbeth.”
No release date has yet been given for this latest “Superman,” but expectations are extremely high, both in terms of box office and also due to the caliber of the cast and director.
