Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)- Trevecca Nazarene University is offering a free, video-based financial literacy training to help participants build skills, knowledge and behaviors that will empower them to make smart, informed decisions about money. The training series is designed especially for pastors, church leaders and nonprofit managers, but is available to anyone who would like to gain understanding and training in personal finance. It also fulfills the educational requirement for participants in the Compass Initiative, which helps pastors eliminate debt and prepare for retirement.

The self-paced, fully online training covers personal and organizational financial management, budgeting, entrepreneurship, and retirement strategies. It is taught by Trevecca professors in business and theology, as well as other content experts in finance. The training is offered in four segments, and can be fully completed in about six weeks.

Students who complete the financial literacy training will also qualify for a 10 percent tuition scholarship that can be used towards most online and graduate programs at Trevecca.

“In offering this training, we want to help pastors, leaders and others faithfully and skillfully steward the resources entrusted to them and help their communities to flourish,” said Dr. Tim Gaines, the associate professor of religion at Trevecca who led the formation of the training. “By offering this training series, Trevecca hopes to help church leaders eliminate debt, prepare well for retirement and help their organizations find solid financial footing.”
