Murfreesboro first grader wins unique opportunity at Titans game

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Elijah Lawrence, a Murfreesboro, Tenn., first grader, stepped into the spotlight at Sunday’s Titans game against the Minnesota Vikings as the fifth winner of the Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee’s annual Tennessee Titans Kids Captain Contest.

During the home game against the Minnesota Vikings, the 7-year-old joined the Titans’ captains at midfield for the pregame coin toss. The opportunity came from the Tennessee Titans Kids Captain Contest, which gives kids between 6 and 12 years old four lower-bowl tickets to the game, a chance to participate in the pregame coin toss, a parking pass, a red Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee cap, and an official Titans jersey.

Elijah, who is an avid football fan and a member of the Murfreesboro Junior Patriots football team, was accompanied by his siblings and mother, Charissa Taylor. This was an especially significant moment for the family since Charissa is a United States Army veteran, and this was the Titans’ Salute to Service game. The team honored the military and veterans throughout the entire game, including a moment at halftime when the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Band played a portion of each military branch’s fight song and veterans were encouraged to stand and be recognized. In addition, the 101st challenge coin was used for the coin toss.

“Experiences like this truly highlight FBITN’s connection to the local community,” said Brad Woodson, a Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee agent in Rutherford County. “It was a pleasure to see Elijah take the field with the home team and honor his mother’s service to our country. Moments like those in the Kids Captain Contest serve as wonderful reminders of the incredible families and community members, including many veterans, that my team and I have the privilege of serving every day. We are especially grateful for the sacrifices made by our veterans, and events like these that allow us to honor them as well.”

Elijah is the fifth winner chosen this season for the contest. Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee will pick three more for the following home games:

    • Dec. 8 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
    • Dec. 15 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
    • Date TBD vs. Houston Texans

Contest entries open three weeks prior to the Titans’ home football games listed above, and contestants can enter to win anytime throughout the fall season. Entrants must be residents of Tennessee, be ages 6-12 and have parental consent to participate. If chosen, the winner will be contacted within a 24-hour window two weeks before the game.

To enter the contest, visit Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee’s Facebook page.
