NASHVILLE, TN — Billy Fields, who began his career in 1988 as a Special Assistant to Mayor Bill Boner and has since served every mayor of Nashville, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award on Wednesday, May 11, 7:30 – 9:00 am, Centennial Arts Center, 301 Twenty-Fifth Avenue North, Nashville. All seven living Mayors are participating as Co-hosts of the event and are expected to attend.
Fields is currently the Director of the Transportation Licensing Commission which licenses and regulates vehicles for hire. He also managed Disaster Recovery for Metro after the 1998 tornado and served as Director of Neighborhoods for Mayors Bill Purcell and Karl Dean.
Fields is a co-founder and past Board member of Neighbor 2 Neighbor (originally called Neighborhoods Resource Center) and remains passionate about Nashville’s neighborhoods. “That’s why N2N is honoring him with a celebration of his 34 years as an outstanding Metro employee, volunteer and community leader,” said Jim Hawk, Neighbor 2 Neighbor Executive Director. “He has worked tirelessly to make our community a better place to live, work and play and deserves to be recognized for his many contributions.”
At Fields’ request, the May 11th event is a fundraising event for Neighbor 2 Neighbor, the organization he co-founded in 1997. Tickets to the May 11 breakfast reception can be purchased by calling Neighbor 2 Neighbor at (615) 782-8212.
Neighbor 2 Neighbor (N2N) has been training and empowering residents to preserve and improve our local neighborhoods for over 23 years. We need caretakers in every neighborhood striving to preserve and improve the place where they live. Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County needs a greater pool of citizens who are knowledgeable and skilled in neighborhood organizing.
