NASHVILLE, TN — Because of a cancellation, the Tennessee State Tigers have been off for more days than planned. They haven’t played since last Wednesday, when they lost 77-72. It was their second loss of the pre-conference season against four victories. But the loss provided head coach Penny Collins with more information about the quality of his team.
For one thing, he has plenty of firepower among his reserves.
TTSU had four players in double figures. They were led by Dedric Boyd, Adong Makuoi and Christian Brown each with 12 points. They also got solid defensive pressure on High Point, forcing 16 turnovers while only committing 10. But they had problems with threepoint efficiency, hitting only eight of 25. They totaled 15 assists, and got 26 points off the bench. Jr. Clay led the Tiger rebounders with 11.
The Tigers thus far have victories over Fisk 85-75, South Carolina State 80-67, Alabama A&M 87-76, and Cal State Northride 74-72. That win moved them to last Wednesday’s final against High Point. The Tigers have another Wednesday night opponent this week as they play at St. Louis. Then the conference season begins Saturday against Austin.
