NASHVILLE, TN — With the NFL draft set to begin Thursday in Kansas City, Tennessee Titans fans wonder if a last minute deal to move up is in the works.
New general manager Ran Carthon has not made public any preferences or tendencies, but the rumor mill has been active with various draft specialists anticipating a Titans trade.
If no move is made, they will draft 11th in the first round. Some analysts predict a trade up to possibly get one of the three QB prospects. They are either Will Kevus of Kentucky, Anth Richardson of Florida or Hendon Hooker of Tennessee, who woukd certainly be a popular selection.
But Titans management doesn’t seem as ready to move on from incumbent starter Ryan Tannehill as many fans are. He does have a year left on his contract.
The Titans could also use help in other areas. The offensive line and receiver corps were both below average last season, and the secondary was equally poor, especially at the corners.
All those areas need both starters and quality depth. After losing seven straight and missing the playoffs, this draft is a critical one.
Considering that the Titans are also lobbying for a new stadium and a deal estimated at $2.1 billion, there is additional interest in this year’s draft.
As of last weekend and at press tine, no draft deal had been made.
