NASHVILLE, TN — As voluntary workouts continue and training camp approaches, some big questions remain about the Titans on both sides of the ball.
But a move by the Arizona Cardinals last week has put a player on the market that the Titans could clearly use if they could make the salary work.
Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins regularly terrorized the Titans when he was on the Texans. He was just a shell of himself the last two seasons, plagued by injuries and a PED suspension. Still last season in an off-year he had 64 receptions for 717 yards. Those numbers would have been nice in a Titans uniform.
What is more memorable are the stats Hopkins had from 2015-2020. That’s four seasons of 100 or more receptions and another of 96. That’s production the Titans haven’t approached from a wide receiver perspective.
The question remains how much Hopkins, who has been in the league since 2013, has left, and whether his problems with the Cardinals were signs of declining skills or an erratic and unproductive offensive system.
He signed a $54.5 million extension with Arizona that continues into 2024. That will no doubt pose a problem for any team signing him and no one in Titans management has indicated interest as yet.
But signing Hopkins is certainly something a team that was at or near the bottom in almost every key offensive category last season should at minimum consider.
