There will be several events held in the Nashville area this weekend to celebrate Juneteenth.

The original celebration dates back to June 19, 1865 in Texas.

President Joe Biden signed into law the Juneteenth National Independence Act in 2021, making it a federal holiday

The first event is in Franklin on Friday, the Juneteenth Freedom Day Festival that runs from 6-10 pm at the Factory on 230 Franklin Road in Franklin.

There are several events planned for Saturday, most-notably the Music City Freedom Festival at Hadley Park which will extend over two days starting on the 17th and ends on June 18th. It runs both days from noon until 8 pm.

The Juneteenth Freedom Day Ride offers rides at Franklin Pierce Park, 1301 Lifeway Plaza beginning at 7:30 am and continuing until 1 pm.

Black Lemonade – Juneteenth On The Lawn will be held June 17 at 3453 Hamilton Avenue from 8 pm until 3 am.

Black on Buchanan is a block party event being held in the Buchanan Arts District June 17 from noon until 6. It’s being presented by the Equity Alluance.

Franklin also has two other June 17 events. There is a Juneteenth Celebration presented by the Downtown Franklin Associates from 5 -11 am and the Franklin Juneteenth Festival from 9 am – 4 pm.

Monday is the day for the Juneteenth celebration at Fort Negley, 1101 Fort Negley Blvd. It runs from 5 pm – 10:30 pm.

A complete guide to area Juneteenth events with ticket information can be found online.
