Nashville, TN – The Nashville Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, proudly welcomed 23 accomplished new moms into the organization on May 20, 2023. This event, held at Nashville City Club, marked a milestone for the chapter and the community it serves.

Founded in 1938 by the visionary Mrs. Marion Stubbs Thomas, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has provided a platform for African-American mothers to connect their children with invaluable social, cultural, and educational opportunities. The organization continues to uphold its commitment to fostering excellence and nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.

Southeastern Regional Director Darlene M. Whittington, Southeastern Immediate Past Regional Director and Nashville Parliamentarian, Latrecia Jordan, Nashville Chapter President Courtney L. Woods, and Nashville Chapter Vice-President Dr. Katherine Y. Brown all played integral roles in the momentous occasion.

The 23 new moms, all of whom have exhibited exceptional leadership qualities and dedication to their communities, were enthusiastically embraced by the Nashville Chapter. Among the newly initiated members are Toya R. Malbrough, Danielle Jones, LaToya Townsend, Shaelan Williams, Johari Matthews, Joi Mitchell, Martesha Johnson Moore, Rhonda Kinslow, Frances Sexton, Angelica Wood, Chara Rand, Juanita Traughber, Rolanda Lister, Andrea Scott Crump, Cynthia Yeldell Anderson, I’Ashea L. Myles, Lauren Ladd, Ashley Aye, Perri Owens, Courtney Pitts, Monica Allen, Adrienne Battle Kennedy, and Margertha McLean Artis.

Expressing her excitement, Dr. Brown said, “We are thrilled to welcome these 23 dynamic leaders and eagerly anticipate the continued impact they will make in Nashville and the surrounding communities. Together, as Jack and Jill moms, we are dedicated to the success of all children and fostering their development as future leaders.”

The Nashville Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., chartered in 1947, is the first chapter in the Southeastern Region, which includes 48 chapters in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The Nashville Chapter is the twelfth chapter of the national organization, which also boasts over 50,000 family members nationwide, including mothers, fathers, and children between the ages of 2 and 19.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. remains steadfast in its mission to stimulate the growth and development of children under a general five point programmatic thrust: cultural awareness, educational development, health (education and advocacy), civic (legislative advocacy and service) and social/recreational areas, all of which are inspired by mother and teen members. With 262 chapters across seven regions in the United States, the organization continues to create a positive impact on communities and shape the leaders of tomorrow.

As these 23 accomplished women join the Nashville Chapter, they will undoubtedly contribute to the chapter’s legacy of community engagement and empowerment. Through their shared commitment, they will nurture the potential within their children and all children, ensuring a bright and prosperous future for generations to come.
