NASHVILLE, TN — Ascension Saint Thomas recently announced plans for financial investments in clinical program development and a transformative campus development at Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown. The first series of developments is now underway with the recent groundbreaking of the new Ascension Saint Thomas Rehabilitation Hospital, in partnership with Kindred Healthcare, and the Ascension Saint Thomas Surgery & Critical Care Tower.

The new 40-bed acute rehabilitation facility, with all private rooms, will serve patients who require rehabilitation following a stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or similar medical conditions. The 114,500-square-foot, two-story facility will complement the clinical advancements that Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown and its affiliated physicians offer patients in the areas of neurological, orthopedic and cardiac care.

The new surgery and critical care tower will be designed by patients, families and clinicians to create a curated patient journey. Every aspect of the patient journey is considered for convenience, ease of access and the experience of a boutique specialty environment. The tower includes 198,000 square feet of space, 18 operating suites, an additional six operating suites planned for future expansion, 36 critical care rooms and 63 post-anesthesia care unit bays for recovery. In each area of the enhanced campus, patients and visitors will benefit from the “hospital within a hospital” model, offering dedicated parking, valet parking, patient welcome/registration and family spaces in a quieter, hotel-style environment.

“Ascension Saint Thomas is responding to the needs of our patients and their families by providing a new acute rehabilitation facility and a surgery and critical care tower that supports their journey to healing and an exceptional patient experience,” said Tim Adams, president & CEO, Ascension Saint Thomas. “We are honored to announce these important investments to ensure we meet the critical needs of patients in our region.”

”Ascension Saint Thomas’ Mission focuses on creating a healing environment essential to patient care. These additions will bring state-of-the-art care through purposeful design and technology to patients,” said Dr. Greg James, chief clinical officer, Ascension Saint Thomas. “Both Ascension Saint Thomas’ Rehabilitation Hospital and the surgery and critical care tower will be led by an expert team of clinicians dedicated to providing high-quality services and passionate advocacy for patients that enhance the lives of individuals throughout the communities we are privileged to serve.”

“Ascension Saint Thomas Rehabilitation Hospital will be dedicated to providing high-quality inpatient rehabilitation services and passionate advocacy for patients that enhance the lives of individuals in Nashville and the state,” said Russ Bailey, chief operating officer of Kindred Rehabilitation Hospitals. “We look forward to partnering with Ascension Saint Thomas to offer increased access to quality care focused on providing hope, healing and recovery.”
