By Tribune Staff It has been months  since the activist group Gideon’s Army issued a report disclosing widespread disparities in police traffic stops. The report examined more than two million stops and disclosed differences in treatment that proved both surprising and shocking. Since that time, our police department has responded by claiming that the report distorts their priorities, and that the reason for more stops in North Nashville is a direct result of more crimes being committed in that area, and that there are no racial reasons or motivation behind the stops. But the Tribune would add that this controversy…

By Tribune staff NASHVILLE, TN — Public service is something many good people avoid these days, unwilling to deal with the demands, low pay, and hassles that are a routine part of the job. But that has never been the case with District 1 Councilman Nick Leonardo. Just last week he was gathering signatures for easements in the Bordeaux Hills neighborhood, accompanied by his six-year-old daughter Adriana, as part of the campaign behind a $3 million dollar storm sewer project. His efforts were aimed at preventing another disaster like the one that occurred in 2010, when the neighborhood was ravaged…

Niara Savage,  Fisk University Student/Tribune Intern I will never forget the unequivocal juxtaposition that arose in the moments following Barack Obama’s initial 2008 victory and Donald Trump’s unprecedented 2016 win. Obama’s win (at least in the African-American and liberal circles I ran in) marked a monumental moment in American history. His landslide victory was the first presidential election I can remember (I was eleven years old at the time).
