Jennifer Lopez To Develop, Star In Broadway Musical Projects

WASHINGTON –  Jennifer Lopez , American singer, and songwriter has announced her partnership with the production outfit of David Ellison – Hollywood producer – Skydance,  and Oracle scion to develop musical projects for television and film.

“Jennifer Lopez, Skydance & Concord Team To Adapt IP From Legendary Musical Catalog”  retweeted  Skydance Media on July 12.

Skydance Media is an American production company based in Santa Monica, California. Founded by David Ellison in 2006, the company entered a five-year partnership to co-produce and co-finance films with Paramount Pictures starting in 2009 and has renewed the agreement twice out to 2021.

The musical performances will be done with the Concord Theatricals library being the base of it, which includes the catalog of  Rodgers and Hammerstein . Rodgers and Hammerstein refer to the duo of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist-dramatist Oscar Hammerstein II, who together were an influential, innovative and successful American musical theater writing team.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s famed musicals include ‘Carousel,’ ‘South Pacific,’ ‘The King and I,’ ‘The Sound of Music,’ ‘Cinderella,’ and ‘Oklahoma!’ among others.

Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions will develop the projects with Skydance, and Lopez will star in at least one of the projects. Along with partners Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, Lopez will executively produce for  Nuyorican Productions  with an option to star in at least one of the projects.

“Musicals were a part of the tapestry of my childhood. We’re so excited to begin our association with Skydance and Concord in reinterpreting some of the most classic musicals and bringing them to life in new ways for a new generation,” said Lopez in a statement.

“It is an honor to join forces with Jennifer Lopez and Nuyorican while broadening our partnership with Skydance,”  said  Sophia Dilley, Senior Vice President, Film & TV Development and Production, Concord.

“We are excited to collaborate with this impressive team as we continue to champion creative opportunities for the authors and works we represent, together with the copyrights we own.”

Skydance already had a deal in place with Concord and has been working on a TV series version of “Oklahoma! ‘ from “The Blind Side” director John Lee Hancock and “This Is Us” writer Bekah Brunstetter, that would be set in modern times.

Ellison is the producer behind Tom Cruise’s upcoming “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible 8” movies, as well as “Terminator: Dark Fate.”

Born in 1969, in 1991, Lopez began appearing as a Fly Girl dancer on “In Living Color,” where she remained a regular until she decided to pursue an acting career in 1993. Lopez was seen with American actor Ben Affleck recently with her kids while house hunting in Santa Monica. Reports say she has been intending to move out from Miami to Los Angeles to move in with Affleck.

On their website, Skydance explained how this deal may help the company in its upcoming days.

“This deal expands Skydance Television’s previously announced partnership with Concord, which includes co-developing the first-ever television series based on one of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s hit musicals, a modern-day adaptation of  Oklahoma!  From John Lee Hancock and Bekah Brunstetter.”
