TN Tribune–In just a few moments, NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson will meet with senators who received an “incomplete” grade on the NAACP’s civil rights scorecard.
NAACP is demanding that senators pass voting rights legislation before the end of 2021. Throughout the year, President Johnson has been meeting with lawmakers in Congress and at the White House leading efforts to restore federal voting rights protections.
Below is a statement from President Johnson:
“Our constitutional right to vote is being slashed. The Senate has failed to make voting rights a priority, and that needs to change. We cannot allow 2021 to end without voting rights protections. It would be unconscionable. I look forward to meeting yet again with senators tomorrow on this urgent matter. Our crippling democracy is not waiting around for the senate to act.”
The meeting will take place virtually at 12:15 PM ET.
“Add your voice to the fight for voting rights. Call your senator to demand that they pass voting rights legislation before the end of the year.
Our democracy depends on it,” NAACP says.
