NASHVILLE, TN — State Sen. Sara Kyle will be honored for her advocacy on women’s issues at the National Women’s Political Caucus’ 23rd Biennial Convention in Boston Saturday.
“I’m just one Senator standing up for what’s right, and being only one of six women in a Senate of 33, I have to shout a lot louder to make sure my voice is heard,” Sen. Kyle said. “The greatest honor is to be one among the women who fight for a Tennessee where women earn the same as men, where women make their own health care decisions without interference, where girls have every opportunity they deserve.”
Sen. Kyle traveled to Boston for the four-day convention, where leaders from across the country took part in training and planning for the next decade of women leaders. She was among the recipients of the organization’s Women of Courage Award.
As a member of the state Senate in Tennessee, Sen. Kyle earned national attention for MaKayla’s Law, which makes it a crime to leave firearms accessible to young children, and passed one of the first state laws requiring that all police shootings be reported to health officials.
She has been a fierce advocate for equal pay, reproductive rights and health coverage for children with autism.
