NASHVILLE- The Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators will hold a town hall meeting tomorrow, Thursday, August 17th in Nashville to hear constituent concerns.

Representative Harold Love Jr. of Nashville says the lawmakers will also provide an update on the legislative package passed by the Caucus earlier this year, as well as funding the Black Caucus secured in Governor Bill Haslam’s budget.

The main focus of the meeting however is for Caucus members to have the opportunity to hear from the general public about what type of legislation they would like to see the Caucus propose next year. The meeting will begin at 6:00PM at Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church, 1200 Dr. D. B. Todd Blvd.

Rep. Love says, “The TN Black Caucus Series of Town Hall meetings are an important tool for Legislators to keep our constituents aware of what work we did during the last Legislative Session and simultaneously hear from them what issues we should consider going into next Session.”

TBCSL Chair Rep. Raumesh Akbari of Memphis adds, “We tailored some of our comprehensive legislative criminal justice reform package after hearing input from people across the state on how desperately reform is needed. Similarly, we’d like to take the feedback we gather in these town hall meetings and use that information to help build our statewide agenda for the 2018 legislative session.”

Meetings have already been held in Memphis, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Bolivar with a final meeting scheduled for Cookeville this weekend.
