NASHVILLE, TN — The Tennessee State Tigers will be losing one of their most reliable offensive weapons for the 2020 season. Kicker Antonio Zita, whose accuracy enabled him to set a school record last year for most field goals in a single season, announced he was entering the transfer portal last Thursday. Zita made 20 of 24 attempts, including three of four between 40 and 49 yards and one from 50. He also made 30 0f 33 extra points and even served as the backup punter. The sophomore kicker finished second in scoring in the OVC with 90 points. As a freshman, Zito made the OVC All-Newcomer team by making 12 of 14 field goals and 28 of 29 extra points. He definitely improved his range in the 2019 season as well, because his longest field goal in 2018 was 38 years.
Zito was second team All-OVC in 2019, and is from Lincoln County. He made the announcement on his Twitter account. “After a lot of thought and prayer I have decided to enter the transfer portal and transfer from Tennessee State University. I want to say thank you all my teammates and the coaching staff and especially coach (Rod) Reed for the countless memories and success we’ve gained on and off the field. Big Blue will always be family to me and I wish y’all nothing but the best in the upcoming season. My recruitment is now open and I’m ready to ball out wherever God brings me to. Proverbs 3:5-6”
