NASHVILLE, TN — Conexión Américas unveiled the Mi Huella Exhibition, a celebration of Latinx artistry, at Casa Azafrán on March 7 at 6 pm. This vibrant showcase features the works of four exceptional Latinx artists: Alvaro Hernandez, Cesar Pita, Izamar Rodriguez, and Yanira Vissepo. Through diverse mediums such as mixed media, photography, sculpture, and illustration, these artists explore the theme of “Mi Huella” or “My Imprint,” delving into their unique journeys, identities, and cultural backgrounds.

Alvaro Hernandez, a passionate photographer, sees his craft as a medium for self-expression, inspired by cinematic storytelling. He views photography not merely as capturing images but as a means to share his vision with the world. For Hernandez, the camera serves as a tool to connect with people, bridging gaps and initiating meaningful conversations that shape his perspective.

In reflecting on his own journey, Hernandez acknowledges the evolving nature of his artistry. He recognizes the importance of storytelling, a lesson learned through his experiences with Mi Huella. Inspired by his Colombian relatives residing in Sweden for over three decades, Hernandez’s work delves into the complexities of migration, identity, and belonging, echoing the broader narratives of the Latinx community in Nashville.

The Mi Huella Exhibition embodies the ethos of cultural exchange and artistic expression. Martha Silva, Co-Executive Director of Conexión Américas, underscores the profound impact of Latinx artists on Nashville’s cultural landscape. Through platforms like Casa Azafrán Gallery, these artists not only showcase their art but also articulate compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.

The selection process for the exhibition was inclusive, with artists chosen through an open call to the community. Izamar Rodriguez, one of the featured artists, draws inspiration from childhood memories and cultural heritage, weaving them into her illustrations to preserve and honor her identity.

Supported by the Tennessee Arts Commission and Ingram Charities, the Mi Huella Exhibition invites the public to engage with Latinx artistry and narratives. Beyond the opening reception, the exhibition will be on display at Casa Azafrán until June 10, 2024, offering an immersive experience into the rich tapestry of Latinx culture in Nashville.
