NASHVILLE, TN — While the popularity of mainstream media isn’t exactly soaring, those who are still getting the bulk of their news and information from it apparently trust Black newsmakers. “NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt topped all broadcast TV anchors in the latest survey taken by The Hollywood Reporter in conjunction with the survey/research firm Morning Consult. The survey was conducted earlier this month among a sample of 2,239 U.S. adults. They were asked opinion about 40-plus major TV news stars and also surveyed about trends regarding America’s fractured media diet during this presidential campaign year.
Holt had the highest share of respondents, 65 percent, saying they placed “a lot” or “some” trust in him. ABC’s “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir (63 percent) was the runner-up, while “CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell received 53 percent on that “a lot” or “some” trust measure.
ABC’s “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts (64 percent) and NBC “Today’s” Al Roker (64 percent) led morning news personalities. A couple of other high profile names who got good marks were “Good Morning America’s” Michael Strahan (62 percent) and CBS “This Morning’s” Gayle King (53 percent).
