NASHVILLE, TN —A familiar face is returning to the long-running ABC drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” this fall. Jason George, who starred on the program from 2010-2012 will be back on his former show and a series regular. George was in “Station 19” from 2018 until its cancellation last month.
Variety reports that George’s character will be going back to his surgical role as well. He had decided to leave his practice as a surgical resident to become a firefighter. His return to “Grey’s Anatomy” has been in the works since its cancellation, with his character already establishing his return to the hospital. As early as June 2024, ABC hadn’t confirmed George would actually return. But conversations were already underway, and the show’s new showrunner, Meg Martinis, had also showcased her desire to have George and fellow “Station 19” actor Stefania Spampinato join the cast.
“Grey’s Anatomy” has been an ABC staple since its debut in 2005. The show has spotlighted the lives of Meredith Grey and colleagues at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. It was the show that helped launch the career of super producer Shonda Rhimes and has become one of the ABC network’s longest running prime time dramas.
The new season is expected to begin Sept. 26. “Grey’s Anatomy” airs locally on WKRN-2.
