The versatile Maya Rudolph took top honors as the Emmy Awards were announced last week. She not only won four nominations but they came for three different programs. Rudolph is nominated in comedy lead actress for Apple TV+’s “Loot” (just renewed for a third season), in character voice-over for her role as Connie the Hormone Monstress in Netflix’s animated “Big Mouth,” and in comedy guest actress for her hosting stint on “Saturday Night Live” (which also got her an original music and lyrics nomination for her monologue tune).

Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), Richard Gadd (“Baby Reindeer”) and Donald Glover (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”) are all producers on their nominated best series. FX’s “The Bear” became the new most nominated comedy series in history (at 23). It’s also been a groundbreaking year for Indigenous representation (Lily Gladstone, Kali Reis, D’Pharoah Woon-A-Tai). Plus the newes “Shogun” surpassed

Broadcast television’s emmy nominatons are now mainly limited to certain categories like talk and specials. However they did dominate in three areas: music direction, lighting design/lighting direction for a variety series and lighting design/lighting direction for a variety special.

Former “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah (for the 66th Grammy Awards and his Netflix special “Trevor Noah: Where Was I”), former “The Late Late Show” host James Corden (Apple TV+’s “Carpool Karaoke: The Series”) and “Conan” host Conan O’Brien (Max’s “Conan O’Brien Must Go”) all received nominations.

Also in the game show category, hosts Keke Palmer for “Password” and Steve Harvey for “Celebrity Family Feud” were nominated. The Emmys will be shown Sept. 15 on ABC (locally WKRN-2), returning to their usual place as the awards that help launch the new television season by honoring programs from the past year.
