NASHVILLE, TN — The 2018 Consortium of Doctors’ Ltd. Annual Conference will take place Thursday, July 26 through Sunday, July 29 in Nashville. The organization is comprised of professional women, who hold terminal degrees and the mission of COD is to promote community empowerment.  The annual conference is held in different cities each year and was last held in Nashville in 2015.

COD Director, Dr. Sylvia Carey-Butler said, “The Host Committee and Leadership Team have worked tirelessly to present an outstanding event.  In keeping with the theme, “Encouraging our Youth to Embrace Life,” we will focus on some of the barriers that impede our youth as they strive for success.”

Activities include a Think Tank, Youth Session, and the Hadiya Pendleton Essay Awards Luncheon that will focus on this very serious issue. Host Committee member, Dr. Carolyn Baldwin Tucker said, “Our perspective is intentional by listening to the youth discuss their feelings about embracing life.  We expect their participation will be insightful and powerful.”

Dr. Phyllis Qualls, who headed the Host Committee said, “We hope the notes of joy in Music City bring a special song to the hearts of our visiting members.”

The Bouquet of Doctors Banquet will honor two outstanding individuals from Nashville. Mrs. Barbara Murrell will receive the Dr. Muriel Williams Battle Shero Award.  Dr. Julie Williams will receive the Dr. Abigail Jordan Humanitarian Award. Additionally, we will recognize the late Dr. Harriette Louise Bias-Insignaries, a long-time member of COD. The Bouquet of Doctors Banquet will be Saturday, July 28 at 7 p.m. at the Marriott at Vanderbilt.  Tickets are $100.00 per person.

Additionally, five inductees from a variety of careers from across the nation, will join this august group. Atty. Susan Tucker Jones of Nashville, is one of the five being inducted. These women are phenomenal.

During this conference, Nashville  will be in the throes of an election. “It brings to mind the mission of COD, which was established to enhance the lives of others.  Elections strive to accomplish that goal by citizens exercising their right to vote, which can result in lives being transformed, said Host Committee member, Dr. Deborah Cole.

For information about the conference, please contact Dr. Phyllis Qualls at 615-498-4681.
