NASHVILLE – Mary Griffin, a dedicated public servant with the State of Tennessee and a proud public transit rider, has been appointed to the Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority (Nashville MTA) Board of Directors. She was confirmed in a vote by the Nashville Metro Council on Tuesday, October 6.

“Mary is a very welcome addition to the Nashville MTA Board of Directors,” said WeGo Public Transit CEO Steve Bland. “Her public service and strong passion for advocating for others makes her a natural fit for our board to help guide the agency through the challenges ahead.”

Griffin is an advocate for underserved communities and individuals, as well as an established public servant. She is passionate about helping those with mental and physical disabilities and using her voice to speak for those who may not be able to fully advocate for themselves. Griffin is also fluent in Spanish as the result of serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras during the Central American Crisis.

“I am honored by this board appointment,” said Mary Griffin, Nashville MTA’s newest board member.  “As a regular WeGo commuter, I enjoy the friendships I have made with other riders.  I look forward to addressing matters that I learned about through personal experience as a regular rider and from the stories of other riders within the WeGo community.”

Griffin is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. She has received a Tennessee Supreme Court Attorney for Justice award and has chaired the Tennessee Bar Association Attorney Well-Being committee, the Law Office Technology and Management Committee, and the Metropolitan Davidson County Transportation Licensing Commission. She received her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts and Photography from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts in 1987, her Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee, School of Law in 1994 and her LL.M. in Litigation Management from Baylor Law School in 2020.

Her first Nashville MTA board meeting is October 22.
