    Nunn Martin

    Rev. Dr. Arrold Nunn Martin, passed  away March 17, 2023. He was the second child of the late Mr. William Nunn and Mrs. Ida Kathryn Martin and was born in Nashville, Tennessee, July 9, 1953.  

    He was baptized as a Roman Catholic, but later was baptized at First Baptist Church East Nashville. After earning a Master of Divinity Degree in 1988 at Vanderbilt Divinity School he went on to earn a  Doctor of Ministry from the United Theological Seminary Trotwood, Ohio  in 1996.  

    At First Baptist Church Capitol Hill, he served as interim Pastor three times and Assistant to four Pastors.   Rev. Dr. Arrold Martin also served as 1st Vice President of American Baptist Churches of The South (ABSCOT) for six years, and four years as President.

    Arrold attended St. Vincent de Paul School, Father Ryan High School, Tennessee State University, and graduated from UT, Nashville, in Biology and Chemistry.  

    At Tennessee State University, he pledged Alpha Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on the 1972 “Fine Nine” line. “Quiet Fire,” as Chapter Polemarch (President), and during his tenure the chapter claimed three of five national elected offices available to undergraduates. Arrold, a Life Member,  joined the Nashville Alumni Chapter and later became a charter member of Hendersonville Alumni Chapter, and worked with programs that supported youth leadership and development.

    He was employed by United Parcel Service and retired as a senior account executive in 2012.  He was also an  Amway business owner – Y & M Associates.

    Rev. Martin enjoyed playing sports, particularly baseball and football. He also enjoyed televised sports, the Boys Scouts and  R&B musicals well as  NASCAR.  He collected mini-NASCARs while winning several awards.

    He is survived by his devoted wife, Connie Jamison Martin; children, Aaliyah (Terrell) Hunt & Sean Martin; mother, Ida K. Martin; siblings, Quinta Martin & Clarence Lonell (Linda) Martin; grandchildren, Christian & Joshua Hunt; nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
