Who is endorsing your fundraising? Are you out there on your own asking for money, or have you reached out to people who can endorse your plans? Taking time to secure endorsers before you begin your fundraising can pay off handsomely. Think of it this way, what if people don’t know your organization, but share common values and a common vision? How would they know whether or not your nonprofit is credible and trustworthy? One way is to look at who is endorsing your work and your fundraising. What an endorser can do to improve your fundraising. A credible endorser…
To the Editor: Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that we have to have 9 Supreme Court Justices. Nor would it require a Constitutional amendment to add more seats. In fact, Congress has expanded the Supreme Court five times throughout American history. Congress should use its constitutional authority to rebalance the Supreme Court, which has been taken over by a supermajority that holds extreme views outside of the mainstream of legal thought and out of step with most Americans. That’s why Congress must pass the Judiciary Act, which would add four seats to the Supreme Court and help stem…
By Hazel Trice Edney (TriceEdneyWire.com) – In the early days of broadcasting, the faces of local television newscasters, reporters and management were almost exclusively White and male. Although progress in diversity has been made, much work remains to assure that local media teams look like the communities they serve. Advocates for newsroom and media diversity have constantly pointed to the need for people of color in newsroom management as well as on the screen. Therefore, a pending transaction between two companies with reputations for supporting racial and gender inclusivity is being welcomed. Federal regulators, namely the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)…
By Alexis Wray Imagine you’re 12 years old, and your mom is a part of a Grammy-nominated rap group. They just wrapped rehearsals after a long day and you’re feeling bold and adventurous, so you jump on stage for your five minutes of fame. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Jim Cooper (TN-05) released the following statement on the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade: “This has to be a wake-up call. SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, reversing a constitutional right. That has really never happened before. Each of us values our rights differently, but they are all important, and should never be taken away. Our fears were realized with this attack on women and the rights of all Americans. Now, abortion is effectively banned in Tennessee and more than a dozen other states. This compromises the health and safety of those seeking necessary reproductive healthcare.…
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Yaseen Ginnab entered Middle Tennessee State University two years ago, planning to study biology and psychology. He never even considered research. Two years later, thanks to a freshman-year nudge by biology professor Frank Bailey, the now-rising senior is totally into research — a true match for MTSU’s elevated status as a Carnegie R2 (high research activity) university earlier this year. This year, Ginnab, 20, who is from Nashville, Tennessee, received a prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship to pursue research and this summer he is spending three months in Nova Scotia, assisting with a Fulbright Canada project. This follows a National Science Foundation REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) at Central Michigan University last…

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (TN Tribune) — Local middle school students who attend charter public schools will play organized sports this fall, as part of the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association. Charter schools will offer the same sports programs as in previous years, but as members of a different organization. This follows the decision by Metro Nashville Public Schools to no longer allow middle school students attending charter schools to play sports alongside their peers who attend Nashville’s traditional public schools. In Tennessee, a charter school is a public school, free and open to all local students, but managed directly by a…
