Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)–At the January Continuum of Care (COC) Homeless Planning Council (HPC) Meeting, Jay Servais, the Interim Director of the Metro Homeless Impact Division (MHID), provided HPC members with a draft of a plan to address outdoor homelessness entitled “Housing Crisis Resolution Strategy for Displaced Nashville Neighborhoods” (see attachment). NEW ORLEANS – In a stirring speech to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), Dr. Calvin Mackie called on the nation, and particularly its educators, to bring hope back into the lives of children, families and communities. “We have to bring back hope,” Dr. Mackie said, acknowledging the pain and suffering caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. He asserted that students in classrooms across the country, and especially in under-resourced communities, must see their teachers expressing hope so they can feel it and use it as a motivating force. “This whole place, this whole world called America is based…

By Melinda Burrell & D.G. Maw “This is painful. The people we are ‘up against’ are people we have known for years. Our lives are intertwined.” Speaking from rural California, Jane explained what school board conflict is doing to her community. She is not alone. Many communities are being torn apart as parents fight for their children’s future – but with different views of what that future should be.
