NASHVILLE, TN — Dr. Carolyn Baldwin Tucker, former Metro Councilmember, former principal and administrator in the Metro Nashville Public School System, was honored by the 114th Tennessee General Assembly on the House Floor during this past session.
State Representative Harold M. Love, Jr. sponsored the resolution in recognition of Dr. Tucker’s outstanding civic and educational accomplishments. In addition, under a separate resolution, the Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators recognized her achievements by naming her a “Living Legend in Tennessee.”
Rep. Harold Love said, “Dr. Tucker is most deserving of these special recognitions, and I am honored to have sponsored the legislation in the Tennessee House of Representatives.”
Dr. Tucker is the first African American woman to be elected as an At-Large Member of the Metro Council and the first African American woman to win a county-wide race in Metro-Davidson County. In 2023, Council member Jennifer Gamble sponsored legislation that named a street in honor of Dr. Tucker in North Nashville.
When asked how she felt about these honors, she stated, “To God be the glory.”
Dr. Tucker is married to Jesse Tucker, and they have two adult children, Atty. Susan Tucker Jones of Nashville and Evangelist Randall (Ericca) Tucker of Houston, TX, and four grandchildren.
