NASHVILLE, TN — Michael Jackson has joined the list of superstars whose life and career provide the foundation for a biopic. It was announced last week that longtime film and television director Antoine Fuqua would be the person in charge of an upcoming Jackson biopic. The website and Shadow and Act were the first to announce that in addition to Fuqua, Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, has been chosen to star in the production. The 20-year old is the son of Jermaine Jackson, The film is titled”Michael”

A studio release said  “Michael will give audiences the never-before-told and in-depth portrayal of the complicated man who became the King of Pop. The film will explore all aspects of Michael’s life, including his most iconic performances that led him to become the greatest entertainer of all time.” “Jaafar embodies my son. It’s so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers,” said Katherine Jackson in a statement received by S&A.

“I met Jaafar over two years ago and was blown away by the way he organically personifies the spirit and personality of Michael,” said King. “It was something so powerful that even after conducting a worldwide search, it was clear that he is the only person to take on this role. I am beyond thrilled that he has come on board to portray his uncle and cannot wait for the world to see him on the big screen as Michael Jackson.”

“It’s incredibly exciting to watch Jaafar bring Michael to life,” said Fuqua. “There was such a spiritual connection when I first met Jaafar, who has a natural ability to emulate Michael and such a great chemistry with the camera.”

The film begins principal photography later this year. and is produced by King and the co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate, John Branca and John McClain.

John Logan, who wrote “The Aviator” and “Gladiator” will provide the script.
