I Think You’re Wrong (but I’m Listening): Edgehill United Methodist Church hosts event to bridging the gap between right and the left

Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)-On Sunday, September 8, at 9:30 AM, Edgehill United Methodist Church is hosting the authors of the book, I Think You’re Wrong (but I’m Listening): A Guide to Grace-Filled Political Conversations. Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers are two working moms from opposite ends of the political spectrum who teach us that politics don’t have to divide us.

As we approach the November election, politics seem to be driven by anger and bitterness. People sitting together in pews every Sunday feel like strangers, and loved ones at the dinner table feel like enemies. Toxic political dialogue, hate-filled rants on social media, and agenda-driven news stories have become the new norm. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Sarah (from the left) and Beth (from the right) are also co-hosts of Pantsuit Politics, recently named an Apple Podcasts Show of the Year. They will focus on the tools we need to:
    • Respect the dignity of every person
    • Recognize that issues are nuanced and can’t be reduced to political talking points
    • Listen in order to understand
    • Lead with grace and patience.

Sarah and Beth will share during the worship service and will host a community talk immediately following the service on the book and its intersections with faith and the current political landscape. A Q&A and book signing will follow. All are welcome to join us for this special event.

Edgehill United Methodist Church is a reconciling congregation that welcomes into its membership and ministries people of every age and stage of development, every race, class, ethnic heritage, sexual orientation, and gender identity; every combination of abilities and limitations; for we are all one in Christ. Edgehill UMC also sponsors an after-school tutoring program of one-on-one relationships with children in the Edgehill neighborhood, as well as a summer-time ministry.
