NASHVILLE, TN — Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center (MWCHC) is excited to announce the results of their “Senior Angel Tree” campaign. MWCHC connected 65 seniors with MWCHC staff, board members, and caring community members who provided seniors with gifts this holiday season. Each older adult listed up to three gifts they wanted for Christmas. Gifts ranged from appliances to gift cards to clothing to basic necessities. The campaign was led by MWCHC’s Outreach & Enrollment Specialist and Senior Programming Coordinator Gwendolyn Langley.
Each year for Giving Tuesday, the employees of MWCHC give back to the community. As COVID-19 continues to further isolate senior populations, Langley saw an opportunity to help this community through the Angel Tree program. Seniors were welcomed to MWCHC’s Nashville clinic to pick up their gifts, and for those who were unable to travel, MWCHC staff hand-delivered the gifts to their homes.
“Serving seniors is my passion, and I’m a true believer that when we are blessed that we should be a blessing,” said Langley. “There were always Angel Trees for children but not seniors, and this is the ministry I do.”
“The other seniors and I want to thank all of you at MWCHC for what you have been doing for seniors during this pandemic. We are ecstatic about all you have done: giving us gifts, calling to check on us, and keeping us updated on what’s going on,” said Regenia Boyd, an active SALT participant. “We appreciate every bit of it.”
Beyond their comprehensive health services, MWCHC offers various programs throughout the year to keep seniors active and healthy. These programs include programs such as Seasoned Adults Living Triumphantly (SALT) and Dial Down Diabetes (DDD), as well as events including the Red & White Affair and Senior Expo.
