MEMPHIS, TN (September 29, 2025) – It is with profound sadness that the Memphis City Council mourns the passing of Myron Lowery, a devoted public servant, beloved family man, and respected leader whose life and work left an indelible mark on the City of Memphis.
Elected to the Memphis City Council in 1991, Myron Lowery dedicated decades of service to his community. He rose to Chair the Council and, in 2009, served as Mayor Pro Tem (interim mayor), guiding the city with steadiness and care during a time of transition. Most recently, he served as City Court Clerk from 2020 until 2024. His leadership was defined by his belief in collaboration, integrity, and progress for all Memphians.
In addition to his Council service, he played a pivotal role on the Memphis Charter Commission, where he worked to strengthen the city’s governing framework. His commitment to fairness and accountability reflected his deep belief that strong government must serve the people with transparency and trust.
Beyond his public service, Myron Lowery was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and mentor. His greatest joy was his family, and his legacy lives on in the lives he touched both personally and professionally.
As we grieve this tremendous loss, our prayers are with the Lowery family and all who loved him. We also lift up prayers for our city, as we collectively mourn the passing of a great leader whose vision and service shaped Memphis for the better. We honor not only his extraordinary career but also his compassion, his wisdom, and his unwavering love for this community and all who call Memphis home.
