NASHVILLE, TN — Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 18th! It is the 17th anniversary of the Nashville Chapter of Les Gemmes Literary Luncheon, held at the outstanding Music City Center beginning at 11am.

This year’s event will feature an array of talent and entertainment that will keep you spellbound. The theme is “Celebrating Our Stories…Empowering Our Future.” The featured author is journalist Reshonda Tate,  author of the Queen of Sugar Hill, and 50 other books.

Two of her books have been made into television movies; BET released a movie in 2013 based on Tate’s book, Let the Church Say Amen, and the made for TV movie, The Secret She Kept (2016), based on her book of the same name.

The annual event is designed as a fund-raiser for Lighting the Path for Girls. This program features the “Jewels,” young ladies from the age of 13 to college who are exposed to opportunities of culturally enriching trips, events, workshops and mentorship. The Honorable Karen Johnson, chair of the event said, “We are excited about this year’s luncheon and have worked tirelessly to produce an event that will please our audience and provide support for our Jewels.”

This year’s mistress of ceremonies is WSMV News Reporter/Anchor Danielle Ledbetter. She will add golden nuggets to the program that will further provide experiences that will inspire and encourage the audience. Other entertainment includes Fisk Jubilee Singers alumnae Kim Fleming and her band, and the African Drum Corp who will open the program.

Vendors are a traditional part of the program and invited to participate. For vendor info please contact Rene’ Whittaker at 615-838-6164 or send email  to mrenew45@gmail.com

“We are providing a power-packed event for our attendees to be entertained, informed, and enlightened.  They will see why we work diligently to support our Jewels,” said co-chair Dr. Candra Clariette.
