CHATTANOOGA, Tenn – The Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators’ will hold a town hall meeting in Chattanooga today July 10th, 2017 at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center at 6:00PM.

TBCSL Vice-Chair, Representative JoAnne Favors of Chattanooga, says the lawmakers will provide an update on the legislative package passed by the Caucus earlier this year, as well as funding the Black Caucus secured in Governor Bill Haslam’s budget Additionally, Caucus members are hoping to hear from the general public about what type of legislation they would like to see the Caucus propose next year.

Rep. Favors says, “The Caucus believes meetings like these will help inform Tennessee citizens of issues vital to the growth and health of their state and we all look forward to a great turnout.” TBCSL Chair Rep. Raumesh Akbari of Memphis adds, “We tailored some of our comprehensive criminal justice reform package after hearing input from people across the state on how desperately reform is needed. Similarly, we’d like to take the feedback we gather in this series of statewide town hall meetings and use that information to help build our agenda for the 2018 legislative session.”

The first meeting was held in Memphis in June, with Chattanooga today and Knoxville, Nashville, Bolivar and Oak Ridge upcoming throughout the summer.
