    WeGo Public Transit Van to be Parked On-site at The Mall at Green Hills

    NASHVILLE (TN Tribune)– WeGo Public Transit will collect canned goods within an on-site van at The Mall at Green Hills on Dec.11, 18, and 23 from noon to 4 p.m. and share details of the opening of the Hillsboro Transit Center next spring. Guests are encouraged to climb aboard, get a photo behind the wheel and view renderings about the future site. 

    With the some of the highest ridership within the WeGo service area, the bus stop located adjacent to Hillsboro High School is too small to accommodate all of the waiting passengers. In collaboration with Metro Nashville Public Schools, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, and the Nashville Department of Transportation, WeGo is bringing riders a transit center to help relieve the pressure.

    “I’m thrilled our community will soon have the Hillsboro Transit Center,” District 25 Councilmember Russ Pulley said. “It will serve Hillsboro Pike and provide crosstown routes to connect our neighborhoods.”


    The Hillsboro Transit Center will include covered bus bays, Ticket Vending Machines, lighting improvements, real-time bus information, ADA infrastructure, a climate-controlled waiting room, exterior waiting areas, phone charging stations, and WiFi. This area is currently served by route 7 Hillsboro Pike with future expansions of nearby routes, including route 17 12th Avenue South. 

    “The Mall at Green Hills is looking forward to the expansion of the WeGo shelter and stop to better serve the Green Hills community,” The Mall at Green Hills General Manager Norah Buikstra said. 

    In conjunction with the display of the future site, WeGo will hold a “stuff the bus” food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. The van will be open to board from  In addition, WeGo will offer youth a photo op behind the wheel of the bus and a cookie for canned good donations.

    “We are so thankful to WeGo for hosting this event and to the community for helping us provide food to families in need,” President & CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee Nancy Keil said. “All food donated will go directly to helping the one in eight people in Middle Tennessee who are struggling with hunger. With your support of Second Harvest, we can fight hunger and put hope back on the table this holiday season.”

    The WeGo van will be parked at the Mall entrance, located between The Container Store and Restoration Hardware.
