Open Enrollment for Health Coverage is already here for 2020. It started on November 1st and will continue through January 31, 2020. For dental coverage there is no restricted open enrollment period. There are many dental plans that are available including PPO, HMO, and Discount dental plans.
Questions to Ask When Selecting a Dental Plan
• Know and understand the difference between a PPO and a HMO plan.
• How much will your monthly premiums will be and if you can add a family member?
• Do you have a calendar maximum per year?
• Are you responsible for meeting a deductible before your plan will pay?
• Can you choose your own dentist?
• Will your plan allow you to go to a Specialist?
• Will you have a waiting period for what is considered Major and Basic dental services?
• Can you choose a dentist out of network?
Many people who have dental insurance obtain it through their employers during open enrollment for health coverage. Only a small number of people really understand the complexities of insurance jargon well enough to feel like they made the right choice when deciding between a PPO and a HMO plan. You may associate dental benefits with a couple of free cleanings per year. Although this may be considered as a perk, but having dental benefits go far beyond a healthy smile. It’s not just your smile that stays healthy when you use your dental benefits, but sometimes the dentist may detect signs of systemic diseases in your mouth such as diabetes and cancer.
