NASHVILLE, TN — Though it has been both a critical and commercial success when it’s aired, Donald Glover’s landmark show “Atlanta” hasn’t had new episodes air since the second season concluded May 10, 2018. But that’s now about to change. FX announced this week that “Atlanta” was getting a third season starting March 24.
“We are thrilled to have “Atlanta” back with a new season on March 24,” FX Entertainment president Eric Schrier told the Hollywood Reporter. “Once again, Donald Glover, the producers and stellar cast have delivered another signature season synonymous with the excellence that makes “Atlanta” so great.”In addition, the third season’s shows will stream on Hulu the next day. It’s the first time the show has had an in-season streaming platform.
FX had given the show a two-season renewal in 2018, but various delays caused by Glover’s busy schedule prevented the planned 2019 season three episodes from ever being filmed. Then FX wanted to film enough episodes for both seasons three and four last year, but the pandemic interrupted that schedule.
But the season three episodes have now been completed. FX says that it’s been set almost entirely in Europe. It follows the adventures of Earn (Glover), Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (Laketh Stanfield) and Van (Zazie Beetz) through a successful European tour. No timetable has been set for production of season four episodes.
