NASHVILLE, TN — Trumpeter and bandleader George Tidwell has been a major part of Nashville’s jazz and popular music community for decades, having arrived here from Memphis in 1963, and established his prominence as a studio musician, arranger, and of course, jazz soloist. He’ll be in the spotlight this weekend at the Nashville Jazz Workshop’s Jazz Cave, 1012 Buchanan Avenue.

The Tidwell Sextet also includes pianist Lori Mechem and bassist Roger Spencer, with the rest of the band members to be announced later this week. Tidwell’s led many groups in Music City through the years. and frequently worked alongside pianist Beegie Adair and saxophonist Denis Solee. He’s perhaps best known for being a member of the area bands the Part-Time, Big-Time, and Be-bop Co-op. It was in these groups that Tidwell developed a much-loved book of original arrangements for three horns and rhythm section. Parts of this book have been performed here over the years under the banner of the “NJW All-Stars.”

The Jazz Cave is a BYOB establishment, with no alcohol or food service. Patrons can bring alcoholic beverages and snacks. The Jazz Cave sells soft drinks and bottled water. It is a listening room, and we ask patrons to keep conversation to a minimum and silence cell phones. Audio and video recording is prohibited.  AllTICKET SALES for events ARE FINAL. There are no refunds, and patrons are urged to wear masks.

Proceeds from Nashville Jazz Workshop Digital Concerts (if streaming) go to the NJW Artist Fund. The Artist Fund is used to help support and create performance opportunities for area Jazz artists, bringing more Jazz to the community and paying artists for their work.

Doors open at 7 p.m. The George Tidwell Sextet will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the live performance are $35. You can also stream it free online.
