WASHINGTON, DC — A memorial service for trailblazing civil rights journalist Simeon Booker will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018, his wife, Carol McCabe Booker, has announced. The service is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Washington National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Booker, a journalistic icon, died Dec. 10 at the age of 99. This year, Fisk University will be the host institution for an anticipated 500 students that will go into the community and provide service to more than 15 organizations. He was appointed Criminal Court Clerk in 2011 and reelected in 2012. Tennessee’s growing population equates to more consumption and deforestation. The Council’s Tennessee Tree Project was created to plant one million native trees across the state.
