MDHA to Open Waiting Lists for Two Project-Based Voucher Locations

Nashville, Tenn. – The Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) will accept online-only applications for two project-based voucher locations starting at noon March 26 and continuing through 3 p.m. April 1, 2024.

These PBV waiting lists are NOT on a first-come, first-served basis, so as long as you apply during the waiting list period, you have a chance of being placed near the top of the waiting list.

Applications will be accepted online only and can be submitted 24 hours a day during the open application period at www.nashville-mdha.org. Applicants can locate the application by clicking the button on the large yellow banner at the top of the home page that says Apply Now for Housing or clicking Apply for Housing under the Renters tab on the home page during the open waiting list period.

The application process takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Applicants will need to register a new username and password and have a valid email address. Once an application is submitted, applicants will receive an email confirming that the application was submitted successfully. Within 30 days, applicants will receive a follow-up email confirming whether the pre-application has been accepted and placed on the waiting list or rejected.

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements for the PBV location in order to be placed on the waiting list.
 Shelby House: 402 Shelby Ave., Nashville, TN 37206 – New construction multi-family development with studio,
one- and two-bedroom units. PBV assistance to be available for 48 units. Leasing expected to begin in spring 2024.
 Chestnut Hill: 101 Factory St., Nashville, TN 37210 – New construction multi-family development with studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units. PBV assistance to be available for 51 units. Leasing expected to begin in spring 2024.

From the application pool, MDHA will conduct a lottery to randomly assign each pre-application a lottery number. The pre-applications will then be placed on the applicable PBV waiting list in sequential order based on the assigned lottery number.

Because there are a limited number of PBVs for each site, there will only be 500 applications placed on each PBV waiting list.
For anyone needing access to a computer or assistance in completing an online application, a limited number of computers will be available along with MDHA staff at the MDHA Rental Assistance Office located at 302 Foster St., Nashville, TN 37207, from noon until 3 p.m. Wednesday March 27, as well as from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 29.

Applicants may also visit public libraries to access a computer. All 21 Nashville Public Library locations have public access computers, and neither an appointment nor a library card are necessary to use them. Applicants can visit the library’s website to find the location closest to them.

Similar to the Tenant-Based Voucher Program, the PBV program provides low-and moderate-income households with monthly rental assistance. However, PBV assistance is tied to particular units rather than to the family. Eligible families only
receive assistance while living in the PBV unit. MDHA selects families from the PBV waiting lists and refers them to the owner of the PBV unit to fill their vacancies.
